Gearbox Want Borderlands 2 on the PS Vita But They Want Someone Else to Make it.

Borderlands was and still can be a rather addictive game, with millions of loot items to pick up, tons of side quests and some clever writing to top it all off. In the past it was possible to escape this by simply leaving the house. However, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford does not want this to be an option with Borderlands 2. Pitchford wants to make use of the link between the PS3 and the PS Vita to make it possible for people to take their characters with them. However, due to time constraints, Gearbox would not be able to port the game themselves and so are looking for an outside company to develop it for them.

I want to be able to have the character I'm working on with my PS3, and then when I'm on the road with my Vita I can just keep developing that same character because it exists on the cloud somewhere. We're too busy to develop it ourselves. But I know there are a lot of talented developers who could take our code, our source and our content and perhaps create something like that.

There may be some problems with this Vita version if it were made, because being able to continue a single character over multiple platforms would likely involve each play session beginning and ending with an online sync, which could eat through any 3G data plans Vita users may have quite quickly. However, it is still a good idea and it is probably more important to focus on getting it working first, and then figure out the drawbacks later. I guess all we can do now is wait and see if someone is willing to take up Gearbox's offer.
