Jedi Knight Galaxies, JKG in short, is a Large Online Multiplayer Shooter, spiced with RPG elements, inspired by SWG, among other MMORPGs.
In order to play JKG, you will need a working copy of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, either as CD or Steam game, on a Windows machine. At this time, JKG will not be available for Mac or Linux systems. While the technical specifications are yet to be worked out, we aim to not having much greater requirements than the original Jedi Academy. You can see a preliminary estimation of the system requirements here to the right. Since JKG is played out online, you will need a decent internet connection.
No! Our goal is, and has always been, to bring you this mod completely free of charge. We might set up the possibility to donate in the future, mainly to keep the servers up and running.
The initial release, JKG: Versus, will be released when we have hammered out the existing bugs and made the game feasable for the public to play and enjoy. The preliminary deadline for this, at the time of writing, is set to September 17th 2012.
We currently do not accept beta tester applications. Since we are releasing the mod in stages, there probably won't be a beta stage other than for developers.
JKG can support up to 64 players, however it's not likely that Phase I will see more than 32 players
Due to the absolutely huge project the JKG team is trying to create, we have decided to break the mod down into different phases to bring things to you, the player, faster. Phase 1 will consist of base gametypes with most of the features you've already seen. Phase 2 will be a Co-Op based game, bringing more of the end experience you will see when the game is complete. Phase 3 will consist of an RPG, it will still be co-op but you probably won't see huge maps or inter-planetary travel, however, in Phase 4 you will finally see the full-fledged mod emerge.
Currently, we have no plans to release the serverside of JKG. However we may later decide to allow Phase 1 and 2 serversides to be released to the public.
Yes, there's already a system set up for this which you will see some time in the future.
Between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope, after the events depicted in The Force Unleashed.
While with the initial release you'll likely only be able to customize your character with armor (which is already fairly extensive), we plan to expand/overhaul the original 'species customization' system from BaseJKA.
Currently, Jedi-related features haven't been fully realized yet, we'll let you know as soon as we can!
Of course! Check out the application thread on what sort of developers we're looking for.
Yes there is, if you can make concept art or you're a writer we could use you on the team, we will also be setting up donations if you want to help us financially with our server costs!
In Phase 1, there will be minimal interaction with objects. In Phase 2 and beyond, interactions such as Slicing will exist on objects. NPCs can be talked to, give quests, and play Pazaak with the player. There are other, unannounced interaction options that we haven't shown yet.
Initially, JKG will only be released in English. Due to engine limitations, only French, German and Spanish are available for translation, should we decide to start translating the mod.
At this time, no. Even in phase 3 space will not likely be seen, however we may later decide to update the game to have the inclusion of owning/flying/fighting with vehicles in space.
This is quick and easy to do, simply right click on Jedi Academy inside your Steam library and go into Properties. From here, select 'Set Launch Options' and add the following: +set fs_game JKG
Once done Steam will automatically start Jedi Academy running the mod, so if you want to play regular JKA, simply remove the line.
Due to the way JKG is coded you must connect to a server or host your own, attempting to run a server from the clientside will send you back to the main menu (even if we didn't disable the command you would just crash on attempting to devmap)
